This cross serves as the place to honor loved ones who have passed on in different cities or in unknown locations. Most cemeteries in Mexico have such a cross.

She explains the customs and the meaning of the decorations on the altars. Usually tamales, Day of the Dead bread and a shot glass or two of mezcal are also provided.
